You could have it tattooed vertically instead of horizontally, then you wouldn't have to decide which way looks best. Maybe your tattoo artist can make some stencils for you and stick them on in the different positions so you can see them and decide which you like better. Awesome idea! Have you looked into having an ambigram done? I've been thinking of getting one on my wrist as well...like hope/faith. Their awesome looking and you don't have to pick a direction.
Anyway...I have a friend with sleeves of hot (fire) and cold (ice) on each arm. His face away from him with his arms extended. They are so amazing looking!

I have a wrist tattoo of a word, and it's facing towards me, because it's for myself, not for other people. but it's up to you. Write it on your wrists, or have a friend write it, and see which way you like it better!
