Wireless adaptor frustration?
Published by: wktd 2009-01-07

  • i have a desktop (XP) in my room and want to use the internet on it. i have a wireless bt voyager 2091 router downstairs so i decided to buy a wireless adaptor. yesterday i bought a cheap belkin usb G. it only connected (automatically) when i moved my desktop downstairs and put it in the same room as the router. so i returned it and got one with more coverage- a belkin N. (£30 more) but now when i connect it says "you might not be able to access the internet or some network resorces" it says theres limited or no connectivity. im really confused.

  • Your not pulling a valid IP from your local DHCP server. Try repairing the connection, rebooting( the general stuff). If that does not work try rebooting the router. Lastly try assigning a static IP address.

  • You have 2 related problems because the signal is too weak.

    1) The signal from a stick antenna is like a donut with the antenna stuck through the hole. The thicker the donut the signal would have to go through the stronger the signal. So, if you're on top of the antenna, you're at the weakest part of the signal. Place the voyager antenna horizontal for most signal upstairs.

    2) USB adapters have antennas that are very small - smaller than a fingernail paring in some cases. Get a real adapter (the Linksys WMP54GS is a good one) and place its antenna parallel to the router's antenna. You'll probably get an excellent signal and a solid connection on the first try.

  • Nobody understands...any help please?
50 points for someone willing to do this!!!!!!!!!!?
