I would like information on how to develop a website. I know very little about the topic other than the fact that there are different languages that websites can be built with. I am using MS 2000 and IE 6 - so I would like to learn the most common language used in that environment. Could you recommend one book, and perhaps recommend some online services that I could take advantage of like: websites, courses, online communities, etc. I would prefer to pay as little as possible to get started. Thanks.

  • Great answer, very fast turnaround. Thanks.

  • Hello eunit~ The best way to build a website is with old-fashioned HTML, which doesn?t require much in the way of special software. You can write your code in a simple word processing program (Notepad is a good choice, and you probably already have it), then upload it to a web host. To learn HTML, you can start with online teaching aids, which are free. Here?s a good place to start: HTML Tutorial: http://www.w3schools.com/html/default.asp There?s a wealth of information here, and plenty to help you create a good website. In addition, Writing HTML: http://www.mcli.dist.maricopa.edu/tut/ allows you to download HTML tutorials, if you want to study offline. If you?d like to supplement these tutorials with a book, I recommend ?Creating Web Pages with HTML;? you can see this book?s Amazon listing here: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0764560670/qid=1087947060/br=1-1/ref=br_lf_b_1//104-6380403-8211920?v=glance&s=books&n=69770 If you don?t want to learn the HTML language, you can also purchase WYSIWYG (?What you see if what you get?) software. For this, the least expensive, but still reliable, software for Microsoft?s Front Page. Here is just one source for this software, Corel: http://store.yahoo.com/discountsportsupplements/mifr20fve.html I have seen full versions of Front Page 2003 for as little as $90, on up to a couple hundred dollars. This program, and others like it, do not require any special knowledge about web site building or HTML code. They work much like a common graphics program, except that you can create links and other integral internet components. In addition, you may find these other Google Answer helpful: ?
