Hotels Booking Center - Frequency Asked Questions:: Hotels Booking Center, Thailand hotels, Malaysia Singapore Hong Kong China in fact, you will usually save a lot of money by booking at our special rates. http://www.yourrooms.com/help_center/faq.htmHOME | I just did couple hrs of intense pricing and planning of taking advantage of this weekend's webspecial to top of my account for EP/SE by Sept 30 so I could also get the 5000 pts early qualification bonus.
Originally, I had planned:
Fri YYZ - YVR
Sat YVR - YOW
Mon YOW - YVR
Tue YVR - YYZ
However, I would need 4 full days to do this and 4 nights of hotel cost and both Starwood in YOW have high occupancy this weekend meaning high rates + airfare runs quite high... (> $1000)
I planned to do the following last time but ended up didn't... can anyone let me know whether it's illegal or whether I could get into trouble for it?
Sat: Ticket 1: YYZ - YVR (8:15am flight), Ticket 2: YVR - YYZ (4:30pm flight)
Mon: Ticket 2: YYZ - YVR (8:15am flight), Ticket 1: YVR - YYZ (3:30pm flight)
This option would allow me to save the entire hotel cost...

Just read a post on the AA forum about so-called back-to-back or nested ticketing, and the conclusion of the AA res agent was there is no problem as long as each tirp is issued on a separate ticket, and the travel actually takes place on all legs as booked. As for the other twist of this strand, the benefits of upper elite levels certainly does make the up front investment tempting to make, particularly if one is not fortunate to have a corporate travel account that gets you travelling 100K+ miles each year, but you still love to travel in a degree of comfort.
Here's an update:
Called EP desk and got a really nice agent and tried to do this but was told not sure whether it's as I am technically doing 2 YYZ/YVR roundtrip and they are really not sure how the system catches it so he doesn't want to get me into trouble by telling me it's ok now and turns out it's not... So I guess I have to split "my quest for EP" into 2 weeks then, spending extra couple hundred on hotels but I guess it's worth it.. So I booked a YYZ/YVR webspecials, upgraded both ways and the agent tells me although he is upgrading me using black stickers, they would accept the gray ones at checkin..! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Just 1600 Q miles off after this weekend..!
If EP/SE is so important, i thinks it's time to "get a life".
The reason that many of us are here, is because FF miles/status are a large part of our life. If you didn't realize that some of us are crazy about it, well, where have you been? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Right on AC*SE... The beneit I loved the most about being an EP is the confirmed upgrades at the time of booking, save a lot of anxious waiting til 72 hrs to find out whether we can upgrade and for those of us who fly internationally, the new upgrade policies virtually eliminate all other tier of members upgrading unless Elite/GLD are paying Y, this makes this level that much more exclusive. I am not sure whether AC have this (can someone let me know..), no capacity control on redeeming points.. just this and the upgrade benefits alone is worth the run for EP/SE. Empress,
No capacity controls, no blackouts. Applies to companions, as well.
The only restriction is that you cannot pull a seat from J or Y inventories for a reward if the flight is oversold.
It doesn't matter whether you are a business traveller or a leisure traveller, if you travel that much a year, having that special status will really help. I am not sure how much a year you travel I'll Miss CP, but there are a lot of us crazy people whose "life" is to fly around and even to spend extra money without even thinking about it just to get a status that meant nothing to some people yet mean the world to some of us.. You also bring up an interesting topic, I am going to start a thread in "The Buzz" quoting your reply and see what others think.
The jump from Club/Prestige to Élite/Gold is big--lounge access, low fare upgrades in North America, etc.
But the jump from E/G to EP/SE is even more so. I fly routinely to Asia, and save enormous amounts of money by booking low price H or V fares and upgrading them, instead of paying J.
I'm not a business traveller by any means (although I used to fly to LHR for my University, so I guess that could be considered business travel as I didn't pay, and I wasn't there on vacation). These days I find myself flying to get to/from school, to visit friends and to have small "vacations" throughout the year.
For me, I find I don't spend that much extra money getting to Elite. I do spend more of my time, as can be seen from my upcomming YGK-YYZ-YWG-YYC-YVR-YYC-YWG-YYZ-YGK trip. I would go to YVR regardless, but I'm spending 2 of my days on a milk-run across Canada because I find that my airline experiance is much more rewarding and enjoyable during the year as a result.
I have always contended this is legal as long as you use both parts of each ticket. The airline cannot stop you from travelling where and when you want, and you are keeping within the stated rules of the ticket which only require you to actually travel on the flights you are booked on. Your intent is not to skirt the minimum stay rules on a discount ticket, but to accumulate as many miles in a single weekend as is permissible. Since the airline offers these seats on these terms, and you are complying, what's the problem?
I put this question to Christian Cormier, customer service manager of Aeroplan when we met in Montrea in July. He indicated that while the ariline didn't always like it, as long as you do the trips, you can get the miles. (I specifically ran my four-trip, back-to-back YYZ-SYD itinerary past him to get enough miles for SE.) And also, this is not why that fellow lost his Aeroplan privileges, either.
If your system -- and pocektbook -- can take it, do it.
While I don't need to do "extra" flying to get SE, I do highly value the status and can see flyers putting in a bit of extra effort if they are going to fall short by a bit.
I couldn't see just doing it if I was a long way off as it would mean I wasn't flying enough to reap the benefits. However, if you know you are about to change your flying habits and do a lot more flying, it could justify the Mileage Runs! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
For many of us, flying is a required part of our job. For me, that means flying anywhere from 80,000 to 150,000 miles a year. Even as an E/P it's sometimes a tough slog. As "only" a Gold, it would be even be tougher. And if I was a Club, or worse, non-status, you'd most likely find me in a bell tower with a high powered rifle.
It's not the status per se that is important. It's how much easier it makes flying the rest of the year, when we don't have a lot of options about how, when, or where we go. In fact, this weekend, I'll be flying IAH-DFW-MEX-DFW-TUL-DFW-RDU, when I could have just flown IAH-RDU. (Strangely enough, the bizarre route is a couple of thousand dollars less expensive than the direct route.) And up until this trip, I was planning a YVR-LAX-YVR-HKG-YVR-LAX-YVR trip, flying continuously.
That I would subject myself to that kind of abuse over 48 hours should give you some indication as to just how valuable EP/SE status is to a commercial traveller.
BTW, Empress: I'm told that what you had planned was a "nested ticket" and still against the rules.
Btw, I fully intend to use all portions of the ticket.. does that still consider BtB?
I know I sound crazy now.. but this just came to mind...
Sat: Ticket 1: YYZ - YVR, Ticket 2: YVR - YYC, Ticket 3: YYC - YYZ
Mon: Ticket 3: YYZ - YYC, Ticket 2: YYC - YVR, Ticket 1: YVR - YYZ
