No. I am fool! Taxes put it over $500/person. Sorry for making pulse race!!!
It's actually higher than AA's current winter fare of $416RT ($546 with taxes). I've already booked one of the AA fares for the London Do.
I think UA had or still has a similar fare. I was able to take advantage of a error last week where the $130 fuel surcharge was not being charged on the UA/LH flights to europe. Got LAX-LHR for $449 all in, but not for the DO dates.
Sorry for initial mistake!!! That's what I get for trying to do too many things at once! I was gonna go for $317, though... I just noticed I even spelled the airline's name wrong... "Vigin Airlines"
Maybe we can take bets on the lowest fare this year...and start another crazy thread. :-)
All of my best winter Europe fares were purchased between 10/29 and 12/18, so I'm still looking. Love to do 4 more trips for AA EXP this year.
Travel in Winter 2004:
On 11/7/03: I booked three CO SFO-EWR-LGW trips for Jan-Mar 2004 for $206 ($311 all-in). A match to BA's $99 sale, but that was before BA tacked on these huge fuel surcharges, so it may not happen again - even if BA has another sale.
Travel in Winter 2005:
On 12/18/04: Grabbed Feb 2005 NW SFO-AMS-OTP (Bucharest) and Mar 2005 NW SFO-AMS-IST (Istanbul) for $309 ($395-405 all-in). A mistake on a cash & miles fare, which allowed travel to western & eastern Europe (including WAW - Warsaw, Poland and SVO - Moscow, Russia)...so also not something you can count on.
Travel in Winter 2006:
On 10/29/05: The best I could get was Jan 2006 AA SFO-MIA-CDG for $334 ($433 all-in).
Travel in Winter 2007:
I have some $198 CO EWR-LGW fares on hold ($303 all-in). If I can find some SFO-NYC $180-200 all-in...the total price would be $480-510 all-in.
Fall 2006 - I bought an AA SFO-DUB, BRU-SFO for $450 ($546 all-in).
AA SFO-LON $430 ($559 all-in) was available a few weeks ago.
It was $198RT..I booked four of them. I'm not as optimistic as you that we'll see these come back this year. If they do, I have the time to book a bunch of them.
While that is true, you won't necessarily be able to get a refund when the fare goes down absent paying a $100-200 change fee or jumping thru a bunch of hoops (it seems to vary by airline and phase of the moon). And you will have to accept airline scrip if you do (never a good things as it often cannot be used to book low internet fares).
As for my optimism, I certainly won't guarantee that we will see $199 fares again from the West Coast this year. But I predict that we will see RT fare sales better than the current offerings for winter season travel from the US West Coast to Europe (most likely London, but possibly the continent, too). I stand by $299 ($430 all-in) as my best guess, but would not be surprised to see it go lower. Probably $100 less from the East Coast.
A couple of years ago I flew for $299+ RT from SF (or was it $199+ ?) - the total with taxes was roughly $100 more.

I think it's more how they calculate the fuel surcharge on these (there wouldn't be $246 in taxes on this route). Virgin elects to add it on, while AA includes it in the base fare.
AA does not have a "fuel surcharge" as far as I know. The fare you see is the fare you get, plus taxes, 9/11 fee, airport fees, etc. For US-UK roundtrip the security and immigration "fees" are incredibly high, close to $100-130 RT. But AA does not add any BS fees to the government fees. Fuel surcharges are just another way of false advertising the real price - and you should take your business elsewhere.
IMO $550 for winter travel - booked in August - is not really all that special. A couple of years ago I flew for $299+ RT from SF (or was it $199+ ?) - the total with taxes was roughly $100 more. While fares are going up, I'd be willing to wager that we'll see SFO/LAX - LHR/LGW for $400 all-in this winter, particularly with the security hassles and huge overcapacity. There are literally almost a dozen carriers competing on this route if you count all of the connections.
Alas, it won't get me *A Miles.
If the fare were valid all in at this price, it would not be eligible for US miles. One fare class higher and it is valid for *A accrual in the US (http://www.usair.com/awa/content/dividendmiles/earnmiles/airlines.aspx#virgin) program
This excludes taxes, which brings the $317 fare to $562.90.

Few days ago, I was check united.bomb for travel in November. I found the exact $562.90 fare (all incl). Did not book, as my timing was still in question. Itin was
SFO - LHR UA#954
LHR - SFO UA#931
Don't know if such fare still exists today.
Still there. Just checked a Fri-Sun in Jan:
562.90 USD per person
United Airlines 930 Jan 12 12:30 pm SFO 6:55 am (Next day) LHR
United Airlines 931 Jan 14 1:20 pm LHR 4:33 pm SFO
S fare, so not upgradeable.
I see the $317, then on the next screen, taxes and fees bring it up to $562.90
Same deal from LAX
sfo lhr 317 all in
in february
....is how i read this
please put a comma in the title
That's an incredible fare! Tempting, weekend in London? Alas, it won't get me *A Miles.
Shame on Zhaunk for not including taxes in his post ;)
Shame on me for not investigating before commenting

Looks as if DL and AA are jumping ito the LAX/SFO - LON game as well - FareCompare.com has a $384+ fare on DL thru mid Dec;
AA.com has $416+ ($536 all-in) on the similar dates for SFO-LHR.

I remember that one. Booked it on the CO match -- CO-coded, VS-operated SFO-LHR RT for some like $325 all in.

Do you need the NYC stop?
If not, CO has a $447+ fare SFO-LON. Comes out to $557 all in (less if you have the Chase/CO MC discount) via IAH.
