For what it is worth, the Wall Street Journal reported that the Bankruptcy judge will let USAir continue flying through May--I would be skeptical of booking anything beyond May!
Several airlines (AA UA CO Airtran) seem to be matching the US sale fares....at least out of Houston. US appears to have lowered even further some of their M-Th fares out of Houston
Each of the fares I checked were exactly the same as before the sale.
One fare advertised, Envoy class, from LAX to FPO for $649 + RT did not exist prior to the sale, nor in the sale.
I was in London this past weekend and read that US delayed their loan payment until June, I think. Seems like delaying the inevitable, but just my opinion. It seems that the bankruptcy judge just won't let US die, like the judge did with Eastern.
They didn't exactly delay their loan payment, they were just permitted to continue taking money from a government-cosigned loan until June when they "intend" to come out of bankrupcy.
Things are looking up for US Airways, and their loads are higher, but I would be no means say they are out of the woods. There are good threads about this on the US board.
I'm confident about booking through June and even the summer. Even US is profitable during the summer, so I think at the very least they'll let it operate until they can squeeze out the last few dollars in August and September.
I would be a bit leary of buying a ticket. It sounds like a very quick way for US to raise cash, and we all know they desperately need it. I remember Midway Airlines, and a few other recently defunct carriers had similar sales, only to fold soon afterwards. Nobody understands...any help please?
50 points for someone willing to do this!!!!!!!!!!?
