as this was a flight that I was fully attentitive for, I thought that I would do a report on it. It was flight #1122, on augest 31st. Both my mom and I were on D rewards but only confirmed in W. Flight was delayed about an hour and a half, so that meant that I sat in the lounge another hour or so, and I really have to say, after the 3 hours or so that I spent in there, I was very bored of it. There was someone yapping away on his cellphone (ironically waiting for the same flight too) for most of the time, these should be banned, I know people are supposed to be able to conduct business from the MLL, but flying is supposed to relaxing.
As we were sitting in the lounge finding out about the delay, I also discovered that there was an a/c switch, the good old 767 would be taking over our flight, while the 2 YYZ flights both got a 763, even though we were supposed to depart before them, I'm guessing AC had good reasoning for this.
Anyways went to the gate about 30 mins before departure time as instructed and had no problem getting the upgrade. For some reason our BC said ML*1 on it, not sure what this meant, but I understand that it is something to do with people who upgrade, and that if there's a shortage of meals we wouldn't get one, however there were many comp upgrades on this flight as we were one of the first people asked what we wanted for lunch. They must have added a new selection, as I have never been offered roastbeef before, which I must say is very good. Both J and Y were full as well, which makes the substitution even harder to understand, as the 12 and 1230 YYZ flights didn't look that full. Anyways I was just happy that we got the upgrade, and the seat didn't bother me all that much, I had a couple of inches of legroom to spare and the width was fine, definately no complaints about everyones most hated a/c. I think it's starting to grow on me, as I've had 3 downgrades to this a/c.
When we arrived, we had to wait on the ground for about 20 minutes while they found a new gate for us. Had to wait a good 30 minutes for baggage in YUL, the guy next to me was about to go file a lost baggage claim, yet none of the bags had come out yet. The orange tags seemed to save me as ours were off first
Why do you have to find something to attack in what is a perfectly nice, harmless little reportage? :td:
One has to consider the source....
In this fine :p country where I now hang my hat (Japan) when cell phones first took off (70% of the population has one) things quickly became out of control. The once quiet trains and lounges etc. became a jibberish hell. Making phone calls are for the most part now banned, and most people avail themselves of special rooms/areas provided for yapping while others make email ^ !
I personally don't like to be included in some harried business persons sales call. It just comes down to common sense or lack there of !
QSG, just back from Japan, and your comments above are so true: Japanese cell phone etiquette is astounding. Even when the phones do ring, the ring is very muted, and so on... Amazing.
well this guy, was not only loud, he'd walk around the lounge yapping away, so that everyone got to hear him. He may have been on business, but he had his wife and infant with him, so lead me to believe he was going on vacation, if that's case, you don't need your phone. For many people, having a vacation uninterrupted by business is not an option. Also, business trips to a particular destination (say a European city) are often a draw for the rest of the family, and other family members then accompany the businessperson to this exciting location.
Aww, are we really going to turn this into a actual discussion about cell phone manners...
I finked an idiot co-worker out to his management the other day for exactly that, never met the bloke before, were in the interminable security line at YUL, he's about 30 people ahead of me in line and hollering loud enough that in 30 seconds I can tell that a) we work for the same company b) I know who he's talking to and what about c) there's no way he ought to be talking about this stuff in public at all never mind screaming it out in a crowd at the airport...
I guess it didn’t occur to you that most people who use the lounge are actually working and need to use their cell phone!
I guess you didn't bother to read the balance of his sentence, even though you quoted it. He said he understood this, but would have appreciated a little quiet. Some people do abuse cell-phone usage, and show no consideration to the people around them. It is possible that that is what he was referring to. Do you actually beleive this or are you just trolling?
Was this around 1700 on the 9/2?I was privy to a lot of insider stuff thanks to an idiot talking VERY loudy into his hands free(hotel chain reit)and another into his handset(tech stuff)
Seems likely, my boy would have been the second of these.
The orange tags seemed to save me as ours were off first
You are lying that never happens! :D
Well-I just might have to buy some FT luggage tags!

Visitor, All phones have a function called "manner mode" which allows the user to receive a call/email/vidmail quietly! If one does receive a call in a public place/room/train they quickly make haste for the hallway/space between the train to answer it. If the call is deemed un-important then the phone is switched to an answering machine mode or shut-off. Also you noticied most people were glued to their phones tapping away an email , listening to music or looking at the internet. The manners are a function of the technology.......as the phone has moved quickly away from being a yacking device to a personal communications/camera/gps/internet device.
