(Anyone in a costume can join at the starting point.) In the last few years, though, I found the long walk too much, so instead I've watched from the sidelines, but I've found even a long stand--about two hours--is too much for my weak, overweight, aging body. I'd hate to miss the parade, since it always has wild, inventive costumes, and this is an election year. Suggestions? Bring a folding chair and sit in front on the sidelines- get there early. Maybe even bring a blanket for extra coziness and a thermus.
Or if you could, borrow a wheel chair (ask doctor to rent one) and have a friend push you the route of the parade. Or get onto a float so you can sit and wave.
