I want to ask the question as to whether old stickers will be valid on Canadian planes after either Oct 1 (when all flights are AC-designated), or after Jan 1 (when the Canadian Plus program is absorbed by Aeroplan). I have already read several postings on this question, without really being sure if there is a clear answer one can give - possibly because the people at Canadian Plus (and possibly also Canadian/Air Canada and Air Canada) have not yet decided on this matter?
I have several old "500" mile stickers, several old "threshold system-wide" stickers, and even several "ultimate system-wide" tickers.
I am wondering what I should do with my old stickers, if I can not use them in the future.
PS-This is a reposted message, in a revised from, from another topic posting.
Checked with the EP desk today, and they are advising that the old stickers will be honored on CP operated flights. The only time they will not be accepted on a CP flight is if the flight is "wet-leased" to AC. I've done a quick look to see if there are any more wet leases after 01Oct, but it appears that as per the schedule, we are back to having our own aircraft back. Probably due to cutover to RES III making it easier to process flights in 1 system.
Are you sure the CP designator code will disappear next month? I have just gotten a couple of seat sale e-tickets, and all have the usual three number CP flights as we know them. I understand ticket stock using the AC 014, and the present cover that all AC and CP flights now have with four number designators on each other's metal. So I must admit I am confused by the suggestion the CP code disappears and will be AC four numbered flights after ResIII comes into action at Cdn.
Fly Boy, I can find next to no CP metal trans-Atlantic flights out of YYZ any more. They appear to all be AC metal, or "partners" like Alitalia to ROM. CP metal appears to just be flying the Pacific and down to South America from this hub (intenationally). Can you refer me to any because I would certainly prefer to book CP metal to be able to use the rest of my "old" systemwide upgrades. Although it's true that all flights are AC numbers after Oct 1, some flights will continue to be operated by CP. The way system processes upgrades will be different and all upgrades will probably come from C class inventory with the switch to AC's system...
This raise another interesting question, would upgrades on CP metal receive the extra 25% then? Have any EPs booked travel for beyond Oct 1 and upgraded... what class does it say?
I think as long as it's CP metal, you can still use you 1999 upgrades as they promised earlier in the year and upgrades issued this year will continue to be valid until Feb/2001 since they are equivalent to AC 2000 upgrades
CPYVR, thanks for checking that.
It's actually really good news because I think all the YOW-YYZ and YUL-YYZ "CP" flights had become wet-leased (presumably to handle standbies and so on).
[And allow me to remind the readers of my question regarding what CP stickers were worth in terms of next year's lounge passes.]

Shareholder, as per a bulletin sent to employees on 24Aug ( http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum5/HTML/000872.html ) we were told of the disappearance of the CP code. Currently, the schedule is showing CP operating all its normal flights well into the new year, but I imagine that with the ResIII cutover, there are plans to also run a schedule change (flight numbers only I presume). This is when the flights will start appearing as AC3--- flight numbers with the rider 'operated by Canadian Airlines'. Of course we will all see exactly what happens then. As far as confusion, well, I'm not sure how it will work. From my view, as by CP and AC will be working on ResIII at the airports, passengers may be able to check in with whoever is available. This may pose a problem with the unions though, as until there is an agreement to merge the unions, a CP employee should not be checking in an AC passenger on an AC operated flight and vice versa. But with ResIII, I see them both having access to do just that. Will it happen? We can only wait and see.
I have tried several different sources for
the answer to this question , including this
board. No one seems to know, including a
CPlus "expert" in YYC. I think you hold your
stickers, and try to book your flight on
a CP flight number, (CP metal) , and act REALLY NICE to the phone agent, the checkin
agent, and/or the gate agent to try to use
your old stickers. i would expect there may
be some sort of policy announcement on this
closer to Dec. 31. If I were one of the
powers that be at AC, I'd let us new "valued"
CP customers use up our old stickers where
they have capacity (subject to "pecking
order" rules, of course!) If they cut us off,
it will just cause more ticked off customers!
Now if AMEX would just give us something for our 2 for 1 certificates, we'd be very happy!
The employee info was quite clear (late August) that CP codes would disappear. I don't think this is a big problem as they would just be "updated" with the new AC number but I can see some consumer confusion at the gate! Let's hope there is a plan in place to deal with the changeover.
Hopefully, when both CP and AC are using Res III, things will be much more orderly at the airports, especially the check-in. I would hope that pax could just check in at either airline's counter (whichever one has the shorter lines or whichever one is closest), but perhaps they will stick with AC checking in people on flights 0001-2999 and CP checking in flights 3000 and up?
If they are changing all the flight numbers 01Oct, then it will be rather confusing for pax who are ticketed with the old flight numbers.
FewMiles..
According to CPYVR on another thread: "As CP is cutting over to RESIII, it will only be able to issue tickets using 014 ticket stock. CP will carry 4 digit flight numbers and there will be a disclaimer that the flight is "operated by CP".
Bulletin was put out to employees 24Aug with this info.
I believe this means that there will still be a way of identifying CP flights even though they all only carry an AC number? This should mean you are OK for using old upgrades (AC honoring its commitment). You don't have long until you get to test the system though.
I have booked several YYZ-YVR's on CP900 series flight numbers for Oct and Nov. Agree, that the RESIII system could change them to 3900 series but otherwise all will remain the same.
Empress: my EXP upgrades were booked in "R" class so doesn't look like we'll ever get our 25% cos bonus like our SE peers sitting right next to us.
Shareholder: you are right there are next to no CP metal trans-Atlantic flights save for
CP 86 YYZ-LHR and CP 77 LHR-YOW, and a YUL-FCO service (can't recall flight number).
Nobody understands...any help please?
50 points for someone willing to do this!!!!!!!!!!?
