A mileage run or not a mileage run? Cost (to me) is 0 CPM. You decide.
My usual Delta commute, LGA-ATL-CSG on Monday morning and then back again mid week costs about $480 RT. It's a tad high because it's the only flight that gets me into CSG in the morning. For a cheaper fare I'd have to sit in ATLanta and not arrive into CSG until afternoon.
However, I discovered that for the same fare I can leave New York late Sunday evening, fly to Las Vegas and then to ATLanta on the red-eye, placing me in CSG early Monday morning. The difference is 5756 miles versus 2522 by going 'straight'. You just have to like sleeping on planes --- to me it's as good as anywhere else.
Just a thought---that ridiculous and creative routings can be done, costing The Corporation not a cent more than they're already paying for a direct routing. Once I got the finance dept. habituated to the $480 RT, (got an argument from some manager who didn't understand that sitting hours in ATL meant that I couldn't bill the customer about $1000) they didn't sneeze at the Vegas routing.
Cheers,
Rob
(still in CSG, two whole days before I can fly again)

Won't know, until you try. If you try and don't like it, or can't handle it, just go back to the direct. But seems like a great way to get some extra EQMs. And when you make max-Elite, you'll still be getting tons more extra spendable miles.
If family or health matters aren't a concern, go for it!

Very good if you need the extra EQMs to get to the next level with DL. The LAS-ATL redeye wouldn't bother me if I was in FC everytime. It's just once a week eh?
Yeah, once a week.
The deciding factor is how well I can sleep, which (as you wrote) is easier in FC. It's overnight, an upgrade shouldn't be a problem. Nothing can go wrong can go wrong can go wrong can go wrong can go wrong :o
Monday morning I was in coach at 6AM, trumped by a bunch a platinums. Wound up next to a Blackberry Queen. He kept elbowing me in the ribs 'cause he couldn't stop fiddling with all his technojunk. Too much of that and I won't last.
I'll write back after two weeks of this and let everybody know.

So far so good. I slept like a baby on both the JFK-LAS and the LAS-ATL segments. The Song seats have very good back supports. On LAS-ATL, the flight was full and no upgrade, but I had an exit row window and the lady next to me had good manners, no chitchat and no elbows.
A bonus, I am enjoying a proper breakfast now. Which I can in Hartsfield but not in La Garbage.
Cheers,
Rob in ATL
Since they changed my departing Song flight from 7:55pm to 7:00pm, the flight has actually left at 8:30 one week and 10:30 this past Sunday night. JFK is about as efficient as anything run by the Port Authority, so Delta had to delay boarding because cleaners were taking forever. Then they boarded everyone. Then they decided to change a tyre. (waited to change the tyre until all passengers were aboard, when they could have done it whilst the aircraft was being 'cleaned') Then, the aircraft taxied for about an hour before takeoff.
As a result I missed the connecting flight from LAS-ATL. A creative fellow booked me to Atlanta via Fort La-di-da (FLL) which gave me an extra unplanned segment. As I boarded, he quipped that it shouldn't be long 'til I make platinum ;)
We're now up to 7013 MQM. for this one trip.
Nobody understands...any help please?
50 points for someone willing to do this!!!!!!!!!!?
