Yeah its called the New Xbox Experience (NXE for short), Microsoft publicly announced it will be rolling out the Fall 2008 update on the 19th of November worldwide, it will indeed create a new interface which resembles Windows Media Center and will be more user friendly for finding downloadable content with ease as all things related to one game will be found in one place rather than in different menus of todays dashboard, its graphically superior to the blade interface of today giving better visual performance when browsing, they also have created a new guide inteface that replicates the blade interface that features more options and you will be able to go straight to the Xbox LIVE Marketplace from the guide unlike todays guide, plus you will be able to launch a game from within a game, no need to go back to the dash anymore, other things it will allow us to do is install full retail game discs on the Hard Drive to speed up loading times and to reduce the DVD drive noise, but you will have to keep the disc inside to verify you own that game, the disc will spin at start up then stop and the game will be played from the HDD from then on

There's going to be a free 'dashboard update' some time in November yes. Whether or not it makes major changes to the layout of the blades and the like remains to be seen. It could just be to clear up some bugs and make more efficient existing processes.
Due to the time between the last update and this one though I don't think it's likely to be a 'bug fix' update, so I'd expect to see some moderate changes to the layout of the dashboard. Gameplanet - News - Archives - August 2005::
