Is my guinea pig depressed?
Published by: wktd 2009-01-08

  • I saw a small bare spot on her back. I believe she is pulling some hair out for some reason I dunno. What now?

  • If your guinea pig as a bare spot you should get a book on guinea pigs
and see if there is any reason why why the guinea pig would have a bare spot. if not take the guinea pig to the vet they would know for sure
    well good luck

  • depressed no, stressed possibly. it may also have to do with her hormones, or if she is pregnant. rodents will pull out hair in order to begin making a nest for their litter. also, is she is under stress she could be pulling out her hair as well. if you have changed her environment, there is an addition to her life, etc, it can cause stress. it could also be ring worm. if u can see any ring like marks in the patch of skin thats what it is, and if u dont want to take her to the vet vagisil will get rid of the ring worm. if its just stress try to make things less stressful, keep things quiet around her, u can put a blanket over her cage, give her extra treats and toys, extra love, and extra exercise

  • Its almost winter so your piggy might be losing its summer coat and gaining its winter. Put just to be sure I might call your vet.

  • Depressed? No. Guinea pigs aren't smart enough to be depressed. Although it'd be interesting to see your pet on zoloft......

This is usually a problem when more than one rodent is housed together and one over-grooms the other as an act of dominance leaving bald spots.

If your piggy is single-housed I'd have her checked for parasites as this is a common cause as well.

  • it's a possiblility. but take it to the vet first. it might be irritated skin and it has just scratched that area bald...

  • take it out for a meal
they love tji fridays, mine was better after i took it there.

  • Nobody understands...any help please?
50 points for someone willing to do this!!!!!!!!!!?
