1. What are the main benefits that come with an air purifier?
Air purifiers benefit your health by removing or reducing the occurrence of harmful particles in the air. There are a variety of air purification technologies available at Air & Water to reduce odors, reduce particulates in the air, and to destroy living micro-organisms that float through the air you breathe.
2. What can an ionic purifier do for me?
Ionic purifiers contain a device that ionizes the air passing through it, causing the particles contained to gain a charge (either positive or negative, depending on the machine). After the air has been charged, one of two things can happen: the particles in the air can be attracted to an oppositely charged plate in the purification process or the particles can be attracted to other particles that have received an opposing charge resulting in the two particles sticking together and falling out of the air. Purifiers that release ions into the air have a much larger effectual range than those that do not because the air does not need to pass through the machine to start the purifying; air only needs to come into contact with the charged ions that are released. Capture-type ionic purifiers only need to be cleaned by wiping the dirt from the plates while ion-releasing purifiers require minimum maintenance. The particles are removed when you vacuum. Also, most ionizers are extremely quiet.
3. What does a HEPA filter offer?
HEPA filters use a cloth-like filter that is specifically engineered to trap at least 99.9% of particles, 0.3 microns or larger in size. In comparison, a smoke particle is 0.5 microns in size, nearly twice as large as the particles that HEPA purifiers are designed to catch. Because of this technique, HEPA filters can be extremely effective in clearing out almost anything from the air in a room--just shut the door and let it run. All filtration systems of this type have a replaceable filter that can last up to five years, depending on the environment being filtered. Although the noise level of a HEPA is greater than that of an ionic purifier, it can usually handle a wider variety of pollutants in the air.
4. Is there an advantage in purchasing an active carbon purifier?
Active carbon purifiers and filters use highly reactive carbon to chemically react to materials as they pass through the purifier. By pushing the air through the carbon, particulates are trapped and odors are bonded with the carbon to hold them within the filter making for a very effective process. Most activated carbon appliances use a HEPA filter as well to provide the top quality, clean air output.
